Pies are traditional holiday favorites for all of us. All foods can fit into a healthy, balanced meal plan by following simple yet effective principles: balance, variety, and moderation.
Are you a pie fan? If yes, blueberries topping will be an antioxidant superstar. Such a pie is calorie dense, and the fruit filling provides vitamins С, E, manganese, and fiber. The last micronutrient is essential when working to maintain a healthy weight. Also, it helps to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Antioxidants are natural defenders in the body that prevent or repair damage to cells, tissues, and DNA (the blueprint for cell production) caused by free radicals (harmful unstable substances). These toxic substances can lead to cancer, Alzheimer's, and heart disease. So, enjoy fruit desserts (of course, in moderation!) to receive various health-promoting nutrients.
